February: RESET

Posted February 6, 2024

To build on our January theme of New Beginnings, we are diving a little deeper with our theme this month: RESET! Last month, I suggested a 4 part method that I use myself whenever I am starting something new or trying to get back on the horse after I have slipped away from good practices, habits, and routines.

My method isn’t special. The truth is we all have one. If you step back and analyze the way you are going about your day, it’s methodical. It may or may not be productive or helpful for you, but there is a method to it all.

We are consciously or unconsciously walking through life in a set of patterns. Our brain forms neuropathways when we do something repeatedly, and those pathways make it faster and easier for us to do those same actions or steps day in and day out. Your morning method could be ignoring your alarm over and over again. Or it could be that you delay getting out of bed by scrolling on social media. Or maybe you wake up, take your dog out, drink a cup of coffee, and have a hot shower. Whatever the habit is, you do it for a reason: to avoid and/ or attract certain feelings and outcomes.

Most of the “whatever” we are trying to attract or avoid isn’t even conscious to us. Through self-care and self-inquiry, we start to understand ourselves. And we get the reset only after we have this level of awareness. The way we change and transform doesn’t come from simply changing our habits but changing our desires around the outcome of the habits. We won’t likely continue to eat healthy just because we organized a grocery list of healthy foods. We eat healthy because our desire for good physical or mental health or weight management is higher than our desire to eat unhealthy foods.

Therefore, when we want to reset our habits, we must first get clear on our true desires and understand that desire directs habit far more than anything else can. Oftentimes, there is so much healing and forward motion just from getting clear on your desires. The other end of the stick is that sometimes we realize we are forcing a habit or change, and it isn’t working because when it comes to the order of importance for our needs and desires, it just hasn’t made it high enough on the list. For instance, maybe you really want to get promoted at work or make a career change, and yet taking the steps to get there simply isn’t happening. When you take the time to reflect on your needs at the moment, you realize that you have so much change happening in your personal life that your desire at work is just stability and less change.

It’s ok to realize you are ready for big change and it’s also okay to recognize that you’re not. The main focus is that any reset just helps you make your habits a conscious and intentional choice and go about them from a place of enthusiasm and focused energy. This month, the question is how can we direct our energy in a way that allows us a sense of revived enthusiasm?

We will have morning meditations, more classes, including classes from our newest teacher, Teresa Jimenez, and a webinar to be announced! Make sure to stay posted by reading our newsletters, Instagram posts, and more! Hope to see you in class this month as we all reset together.
